Ohlone Skills

JASPER SAYS: These are pictures of when I went to Lake Merced with class to do Ohlone skills. The Ohlone were the native people of San Francisco. We have been studying them for a pretty long time now. We have learned a lot about their culture, where they lived, how they traded, and and how they made food and weapons. Learning about the Ohlone is fun.
This is me holding the lizard that I caught at Lake Merced.

This is me shooting an example of an Ohlone bow and arrow.

This is me playing an Ohlone game where you have to throw the spear through the hoop.

This is me grinding walnuts the way the Ohlone did, but they didn't use that exact mortar and pestle. They used ones made out of granite. Mr. Rich has a real Ohlone mortar and pestle. They also did not grid walnuts they ground acorns.

This is me trying to make fire the way Ohlone did. We have never made fire because you have to work a long time. Mr. Rich has actually made fire before, I think. I made smoke.

This is me setting up a trap that I made up. I thought this was suppose to be the kind of trap that the Ohlone made, but it wasn't.
This is Mr. Rich and our class putting water over the walnut flour to pretend that we are trying to remove the tanic acid in the acorns, but we were using walnuts. The way you get the tanic acid out is by putting grass over the ground, then pouring the acorn flour over the grass, and then pouring water over the flour.

Waist Deep Powder

JASPER SAYS: Last weekend we went to the snow and the first day we went to sugar Bowl and it was really fun. I went down the terrain park four times and the second two times I tried the table top and I made it. The second day we went to Tahoe-Donner and I got stuck in waist deep and knee deep powder. The time that I got stuck in waist deep powder was when I was going on the bumps and the bumps don't get groomed, so they have a lot of powder. The time that I went on mile run I got stuck in waist deep powder and Stacy came and saved me. On the green run when I got to the first slow sign I would stop and then I would keep going straight until I reached the second slow sign. Then I did a really hard backside turn and sprayed powder.

SILAS SAYS: Yesterday for two days we went skiing. When I was on Snowbird, it is one of the green easy ones, I went on the bumps. The bumps don't get groomed so it took like twenty minutes to get down. Since snowbird is a green circle one it got too easy for me so I tried the blue ones and I was like shredding the blue ones because I am an intermediate skier. On the blue runs I was even shredding the blue ones. When I got down on the blue runs I was so good at them that I wanted to go like 500 times more.

Bakugan Fusing Night

JASPER SAYS: I had a fun time fusing Bakugan tonight. I fused eleven Bakugan but I gave one fused Pyrus and Haos Ravenoid to my dad to take to work. Fusing is when you unscrew a screw or push out a metal bar. Then you put on a different piece from a different Bakugan that is a different attribute. I had the idea of making a business of fusing Bakugan for other people. The price is $2 then my brother and I will fuse the two Bakugan and bring it back to school the next day.
SILAS SAYS: My dad helped me fuse these two of the same Bokatron (how gramma says Bakugan). They were both Saurus. The two types that they were were Darkus and Haos. Now they are mixed together, that is what fused means. It looks easy to do it but it is actually pretty hard. You have to unscrew the special screws and then you have to be really careful and do it with both of them and you switch them around and put them back in. Then you are done.

My Song by Silas

I am an iron eater
I eat kale, I eat marrow
But I don't really like to eat raisins

But when I eat iron
It tastes like some good marrow and kale and raisins
But I don't really like to eat raisins
